Social Responsibility
The team of people who make up Appwareness are committed
to contributing to the development of new, innovative technologies in an environment where all people have access to opportunities to co-create. That’s why we have teamed up with For the Blind to support the involvement of visually impaired people in the development of new technologies. Social responsibility for us is being conscious of the balance between our business and society. Our involvement with For the Blind is one of the ways we try to integrate that balance into our company’s vision – a vision of an increasingly interconnected world where technology empowers all individuals.
In order to create original, groundbreaking technology and software, we need a diversity of perspectives and ideas. In 1994, Appwareness’ owner Mario Ramirez Bernal made friends with a young man named Nicolas, who is visually impaired, and Mario’s world was opened to a new way of experiencing things that inspired him to continue sharing his passion for technology by expanding networks within Medellin, and later throughout Colombia, that provide visually impaired people with educational opportunities, mentoring and access to technology, with the goal of helping to build a more integrated, accepting, and inspired community within the world of technological development. To this day, Nicolas and Mario remain friends, and Nicolas has been able to receive an education and have his own professional success. Nicolas’ story is one of many, and Appwareness’ team hopes to be part of many more stories in years to come of visually impaired people connecting and growing with technology.
